Emerson Lake & Palmer. That is my soundtrack today. Nothing cerebral here. Just loud. And a good Monday morning to you, too. Hope your weekend was a good one. Ours was lovely and cool. Rare for the end of June in Middle Earth. Enjoyable nonetheless.
I did just a bit of spinning this weekend because I received a package on Thursday for a shawl that I had made a commitment to knit some rows over eight months ago. The recipient is doing well, but I spent a couple of hours working on that. It’s boxed and ready to go so that tonight I can spin. I have also been working on the gift sock. I do have something to show you. The amateurish, but lovely skein of Puesta del Sol. It’s soft and fluffy and inconsistent as hell, but I still love it. I love all my handspun yarn. I have knit with only one small skein and I knit fingerless gloves and gave them away. I haven’t found a picture yet.
You good spinners are smiling indulgently at this skein and are thinking of nice things to say like “it’s lovely and cheerful.” Yup, that’s for sure and it looks like exactly what it is. When you take a year to spin 4 oz. of yarn you are not going to come even close to consistency. I can tell already there is a huge difference between this and the current spinning on the wheel. The 10 Minutes a Day is making me more intent.
BTW, for those of you who don’t give a damn, we here in St. Louis are up in arms over the possible take-over of Anheuser Busch by InBev. Miller gave it up a few years ago and is no longer owned by anybody in the country. AB is fighting for its life. Now, just in case you don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s huge here. AB is generous beyond words in this community. They are “the” major contributor to charities here. Without a home owned AB, the charitable foundations in this town will be bloodied and unless you live in an area untouched by the economic bs that’s going on around you, we are in dire need of solid charities. I know I’m ranting but I’ve read a couple of things from out of state journalists. Ya know it’s always about money, but sometimes it’s also about where that money goes. Thank you and I’ll just shut up about that now.
Miss PurplePi is feeling a bit neglected this weekend. She hasn’t been out of the bag for several days and I’m hearing complaints. She channels through Esau Marie and Esau Marie has been informing us, loudly and often, that PurplePi wants out. It’s been nice, but not cool enough to put a pile of wool on my lap. Still, if Esau Marie doesn’t shut up (channeling PurplePi of course) I guess I’ll have to get her out of the bag and work on her.
You have a good one!!!!!!

Ohh, I get the AB thing. It was bad enough when Miller was purchased by SAB, but now the Coors merger is gutting what was once one of the most thriving – and, yes, charitable – businesses in this community. The new corporate headquarters will not be in Milwaukee. People have no clue whether they’ll have a job in two months, and if so, where they’ll have to move. It stinks, big time.
Ratbastards.
Good morning! My sounds track today so far has been Dylan and Jimi. Although your first couple of lines brought thoughts of Rare Earth and know I need to search them out.
Sadly the problem of takeovers has been going on in communities across this country for years. It never ends wells.
As Susan once said about a skien of my handspun…”It has moments or brilliance.”
I hope that the company finds a way to stay locally owned. It’s so discouraging to have big businesses be distant and indifferent to the communities they’re in. Especially considering that that “distance” leaves them without conscience about relocating factories, jobs, etc. They just don’t see the impact that they have, nor do they care so long as their profit margins look good.
Puesta Del Sol is absolutely beautiful and I think you did a fabulous job spinning it.
Take care and hugs, scritches, etc. to everyone there.
We live in scary times with businesses closing all over the place. It seems like no one cares about anything except profits any more. It is a sad situation we are in.
I’m very tired of our companies being owned by distant “companys”, especially if it’s a company out of our country.
Your spinning looks lovely and I’m itching to get back to it. I should start a 10min a day program. I probably could squeeze that in.
Miss ya and wanted you to know I’m catching up on your blog and that I didn’t drop off the face of the earth completely!
Hugs to all
