Oh, goody. So, if I laugh today by Sunday I’m in tears. That sorta sucks, doesn’t it? If we just consider the law of averages, then yes, it’s probably fairly accurate. But, I think it’s more in line with the popular notion that we will “pay” for every nice day we have, weatherwise. That we “pay” for everything. Where did that come from?
SO TODAY IS FRIDAY!!!! We loves us a FRIDAY. Even if we end up a tad weepy by Sunday, it’s only because we are running out of weekend, right? So, eat, drink and be merry because it’s FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!
I finally owned up to Peanut that she wasn’t getting her Pirate mittens because I can’t knit two-color without making it so tiny and tight that a toddler could wear it. I have tried and tried and have finally accepted the fact that it isn’t going to happen. I’d actually considered embroidering the skulls on a pair of mittens my gauge was so bad. Instead, I will make it up to her in another way. Somehow. It might involve cash. Or yarn.
I am currently screaming along on the decreases for the sleeve cap on Thing 2. It went much faster than I realized. But, because I am now heading towards the body of the sweater, I have cast on for a pair of mitts. These are Lady Charles Fingerless Mitts by Jasper Adams. I saw them on Ravelry and realized that I desperately needed them. I have no fingerless mitts. I asked for a pair from Peanut for Christmas, but that’s two months away (from Saturday, mark your calendars and start weeping) and I thought yesterday morning how nice it would be to have a pair of fingerless mitts for my morning walks with the big guy. In other words, my hands were mighty cold. So, I went to Michaels and bought some Patons old regular wool and cast on. I really like the pattern and the yarn is warm and strong for mornings out with the dog. He’s not picky about my attire and if you could see me you would know that I’m not either, but my knitwear has to be just so.
I want you all to have a wonderful weekend. Seriously. If I have to come over there and tell you again, somebody is gonna be in big trouble! And, to get that weekend started, here’s “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane (from Woodstock no less).

I can’t knit to color mittens or gloves for anything. I can knit two color sweaters, no problem, but for some reason the smaller the project the impossible it is. White Rabbit is my fave! Happy Friday. May your weekend be free of tears and full of relaxation.

Patons is good stuff – it’s soft, evenly spun, consistently died, and warm – knits up beautifully! Every bit as nice as Cascade 220 merino. It’s just too bad we have to buy it at Michael’s…

I’m trying to work on some fingerless gloves too, but the cabling gets wonky after a few rows and I don’t know what the hell I’m doing wrong.. I’ve had to rip it out 3 times now and so it’s been cast aside until I finish up the seams on the baby stuff for the shower this weekend.
Maybe I will be crying by Sunday after all, not by sadness but frustration! 🙂

I think the idea of “paying” for anything good that happens goes back to our Puritanical roots. I prefer a different quote: “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” (Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”).
This year’s floods were obviously a bad thing to the people living in the flooded area (we could see the water from our house, but stayed dry by a couple of miles). But this flood replenished the water table from last year’s drought. It deposited fresh soil on the farmlands. It hopefully made people think twice about building a huge industrial park in the areas that were under water. Some of mankind’s greatest moments have been borne from the greatest tragedies, because someone decided that something good could still come from it. *gets off soapbox; sorry.*
The fingerless mitts pattern looks nice; I may start a pair when I get done with my thighwarmers for our evening walks this winter. Last January was cold (-15 F.) and windy (30 mph) enough that my legs would be numb by the time we got home. I’m going to be so stylish…
